General Description of Position
The Ohio Collaborative to Prevent Infant Mortality (OCPIM) is a statewide partnership formed to eliminate infant mortality and advocate for equity in birth outcomes for all birthing people of childbearing years throughout Ohio. OCPIM is dedicated to expanding its capacity to address pregnancy and infant-related mortality and morbidity through four guiding principles: authentic community engagement, data and best practices sharing, and advocacy. OCPIM is recruiting community change agents to promote these principles and to build awareness and public support to improve birth outcomes. This is a part-time, temporary contractual position. This position requires travel throughout assigned service areas in counties throughout Ohio.
Recruitment Areas
Community change agents will be recruited from the following areas:
- Ohio counties where the racial disparity between the county-level Black and White infant mortality rate is equal to or greater than 2.0: Allen, Butler, Clark, Cuyahoga, Fairfield, Franklin, Hamilton, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Montgomery, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull.
- Ohio counties where the county-level preterm birth rate is greater than 10.5 preterm births per 1,000 live births: Allen, Belmont, Carroll, Champaign, Clark Clermont, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Defiance, Fairfield, Franklin, Gallia, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Hocking, Jefferson, Lawrence, Licking, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Marion, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Ottawa, Paulding, Perry, Pickaway, Pike, Preble, Ross, Seneca, Van Wert, Vinton, and Washington.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit new members to OCPIM.
- Build and maintain working relationships with people and organizations within the community to strengthen access to resources for birthing people.
- Engage birthing people, their families, and local community members to uplift their voices through sharing their experiences.
- Attend all required state and regional webinars/meetings and other required, scheduled meetings/events (i.e., the learning session and coaching calls).
- Manage and ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation timely and effectively.
- Travel to accomplish specific project goals, objectives, and activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Ability to promote awareness and engagement activities to help lower infant mortality rates.
- Possess effective communication and personal skills to inspire and motivate others to action.
- Ability to outreach to diverse individuals, organizations, and businesses.
- Knowledge of and willingness and ability to embrace diversity, teamwork and community, data-informed learning, open communication, and follow-through
- Ability to advocate on behalf of yourself and others.
- Ability to facilitate conversations about the community, within the community.
- Comfortable with using assigned electronic device (tablet) and online apps to collect, disseminate, track, and store data and information.
